PEER MENTORING and SUPERVISION SKILLS

Peer mentoring or supervision offers effective processes for critical reflection, personal and professional development, and self-care in the workplace.

Peer mentoring offers:

  • empowering and effective tools and processes
  • increased creativity of a peer group as compared with one-on-one
  • more accessibility especially for people who have limited financial resources or access to appropriate mentors/supervisors.
  • a peer support, learning, and feedback culture in organisational contexts

This course is particularly useful if you are self-employed, run a small business, are a sole practitioner, work in self-managed environments, wish to foster greater co-operation and autonomy in your work environment, or attend to your self care and client issues. The format can be tailored to suit, but is generally most effective as a 14-hour training. We will:

  • Outline the purpose and context of mentoring/supervision
  • Introduce a range of processes and their uses
  • Practise effective methods for giving and receiving feedback
  • Practise peer mentoring, using real examples from your work
  • Identify your skills and areas for further development
  • Design relevant processes for ongoing peer mentoring

Training methods will involve theoretical, practical, creative, and experiential exercises, including role plays and feedback. This will be a dynamic workshop with practical advantages for the way you live your life and interact with others. It is not designed to train you for a profession in mentoring or supervision.
