Our Race to the Future?
The Biology of Sustainable Economics

The New Story of science is revealing that our Cosmos, including planet Earth, is a vast, self-organising living system. Nature's species evolve not by accidental mutation but by intelligent and creative response to crises. Successful species mature over time from aggressive competition to peaceful cooperation.

In understanding these natural patterns we see that we are not doomed to endless warfare, but rather it is our evolutionary mandate to implement genuine democracy, create sustainable global economics, and promote cultural co-operation, leading us beyond survival to thrival for our entire planetary family.

In the context of the evolution of cultures and nations, we find that New Zealand is seen as a world leader in race relations, via the Treaty of Waitangi, and in the management of its natural resources, via the Resource Management Act. While brilliant in theory, these documents have engendered controversy in practice, and exemplify serious growing pains as our nation seeks to develop new pathways from competition and confrontation to co-operation and stewardship. .

Can so-called economic 'growth' be sustained without end? Dr Sahtouris will introduce a new level of language which can help us move theory into practice. She will place New Zealand's economic issues and the principles of sustainable management into the larger context of human evolution. This is an invitation to all who are challenged by the opportunities and threats provided by our current national and global crises. And it is a call for new leadership, with a wider, truer vision.

During the evening time will be devoted to discussion and local action.
